Saratoga County 4-H and CCE Family and Consumer Sciences are partnering for a fun-filled event on November 23rd from 9:30am-12:30pm. Spend your morning with four different project offerings, and kick-off the Holiday Season Right.
Project 1: Making Jam for Gifts: $15, ages 12 and above
Jam makes a great gift from the heart and is easy as pie. We’ll make both a freezer jam (a no cook recipe for kids), and cooked jam, then decorate a jar to take home for gift giving. This class will cover the basics of canning in a boiling water bath or steam canner, including equipment needed. Class size limited to 21. Sign-up by calling the 4-H office at 518.885.8995. This project will take the entire time.
Project 2: Homemade Soup Jar: $5, appropriate for any age
This simple project will teach you how to make a homemade soup mix that makes a fantastic holiday gift. By adding simple ingredients in a canning jar, you can create the perfect cold weather meal that will be ready in minutes. Cost will cover the cost of materials and vintage canning jar.
Project 3: Decorative Holiday Horseshoes: No Cost, appropriate for all ages
Stop by and create your own decorative Holiday Horseshoe. Let your creativity run wild, and take home a beautiful holiday decoration or gift.
Project 4: Hat Making for Holiday Mitten Tree: No Cost, appropriate for all ages
We are happy to, again, be offering the Holiday Mitten Tree this year at local libraries. This initiative provides warm hats, mittens, gloves and coats to those in our community who need them. Last year we had a huge response, both from donations being given and taken. Stop by this activity and make a hat that will be donated to the Holiday Mitten Tree.
We are also using this event as the Kick-Off for donations to the Holiday Mitten Tree. We ask that all attendees bring gloves, hats, mittens or coats to donate to the Mitten Tree.
