The Future of Shooting and Hunting Workshop

  • Saturday, February 1, 2020, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM

33 Years Ago it began!

It is time for a change

Thirty Three years ago, the Hunter Education Workshop began with “...what if?” We are returning to our focus giving instructors the tools and insight to become better educators. The scope has been expanded from DEC Hunter Education Classes to 4-H Scouting and the highly successful school based shotgun programs.

The first year we never imagined crossbows, antler restrictions, or rifles in the Southern Zone. When the first workshop was held, fishers outside of the Adirondacks, scent blocker clothes, a youth turkey hunt, and 14 year-olds hunting big game were unknown. Thanks to our partnership; many successful changes have occurred ... More challenges remain! We will make a list on February 1st of what instructors want or don’t want.

The reasons for the workshop remain valid, including, legislation that is needed to enable young gun hunters the opportunity to share in the rich heritage we call hunting. We are focusing on hunter recruitment, retention and access.Recruiting new and reinvigorating existing instructors to grow as stewards of the environment and our shooting heritage.

Join us on February 1st. to celebrate the 1st event in a new series. The first 200 paid instructors, presenters, and facilitators will receive a special gift.
