Join the Adirondack Park Invasive Plant Program (APIPP) and partners* on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 from 10:00am-11:30am on Zoom to learn about hemlock woolly adelgid (HWA) and how you can help survey for this invasive insect in the Adirondack region. HWA is killing eastern hemlock trees from the Great Smoky Mountains to Canada—it was first found in the Adirondack Park in 2017. Citizen scientists can help determine how far HWA has spread. This workshop will cover basic identification, survey techniques, and how to sign up for a trail to survey.
*This program is jointly sponsored by the Adirondack Mountain Club, Capital Region PRISM, Lake George Land Conservancy, NYS iMapInvasives, NYS Hemlock Initiative, Ausable River Association, and Champlain Area Trails.
Forest Pest Hunter field trainings will be held in early February. Dates and locations will be announced in January.
