Taste NY Welcome Center Associate

Position Summary:

Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) of Saratoga County’s Taste New York (TNY) Adirondacks Welcome Center promotes the region's local tourism industry, rich history, food, and beverages. The Center is a partnership between CCE of Saratoga County, Cornell University, NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets (AGM), and the NYS Empire State Development Corporation.

Associate responsibilities include assisting customers with vending machines, cleaning, restocking, refilling supplies, etc. Associates also discuss NYS agriculture and local foods with customers to engage them in these areas and to provide information upon request about the food and farm products sold in the store.

Required Qualifications:

Specify required minimum equivalency for education, experience, skills, information systems knowledge, etc.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to effectively work in an informal, educational-based retail environment, ensuring positive public educational and customer service experiences.

Administrative Responsibilities:

Coordination/Operation – 95%

  • Provides customer service – greets, assists, and serves the needs of Taste NY Welcome Center customers. Describe the local farms, produce, food, and products displayed.
  • Assist customers with vending machines.
  • Service and stock inventory and vending machines, removes expired products.
  • Service and stock coffee machines and supplies.
  • Organize pantry and cooler.
  • Follow all procedures for proper management and handling of cash and coins.
  • Assist in cleaning and maintaining a visually distinctive and impeccably maintained store – cleaning equipment, breaking down boxes, taking out garbage, sweep, mop, etc.
  • Assist with opening and closing procedures.
  • Quickly notifies supervisors of any unique or emergency situations.
  • Assist with store organization and recordkeeping – log shrink, etc.
  • May prepare product and food demonstrations.
  • Assist with promotion of agri-tourism.

Professional Improvement – 5%

  • In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and Association priorities.
  • Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension and perform other duties as assigned.

Health and Safety – Applied to all duties and functions

  • Support the Association to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Be familiar with and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, Association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard.
  • Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified.

Taste NY Welcome Center Manager – Queensbury, NY

Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) of Saratoga County’s Taste New York (TNY) Adirondacks Welcome Center promotes the region's local tourism industry, rich history, food, and beverages. The Center is a partnership between CCE of Saratoga County, Cornell University, NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets (AGM), and the NYS Empire State Development Corporation.

The Taste NY Welcome Center Manager oversees all aspects of the Center and helps ensure a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment for staff and customers. The Manager frequently builds and maintains tactful, collaborative relationships with vendors, NY State agencies, Cornell University, and other CCE associations.

The Manager leads and motivates staff resulting in informal programs and education about NYS farmers and other producers; positive customer service to members of the public; generation of sales; minimizing losses; and ensuring the store and website is visually distinctive and impeccably maintained.

This position works in-person including early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays based on the Center schedule ensuring appropriate staffing and supervisory coverage levels.

Required Qualifications

Position Details

This is a full-time, exempt position. Compensation paid in the range of $60,000 - $70,000 annually. Excellent benefits, based on eligibility, including:

Watercraft Stewards 

CCE of Saratoga County Aquatic Invasive Species Watercraft Stewards – Along the Hudson and Mohawk Rivers, NY

As part of CCE Saratoga’s Capital Region Partnership for Regional Invasive Species Management (PRISM) program, Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Watercraft Stewards provide public education and outreach at boat launches regarding statewide Clean, Drain, Dry practices in order to help prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species. Watercraft Stewards collect research data daily from interactions with the public using the Survey123 Watercraft Inspection Steward Program Application (WISPA).

The Capital Region PRISM includes Albany, Columbia, Greene, Herkimer, Montgomery, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, and Washington counties.

Watercraft Stewards work independently at various boat launch locations throughout the Capital Region PRISM.

Watercraft Stewards work on a full-time, seasonal (temporary) basis from May through September. Work schedules are typically Thursday-Monday, including holidays, from 7:00 am – 3:30 pm with a 30-minute meal period, though schedules may also vary depending on program needs.

The Watercraft Steward program runs from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, with several days of required programmatic training on May 17, 20, and 21, 2024.

Compensation

Compensation paid at the rate of $18.55 per hour.
